What is surveying?
A survey involves determining the position of a known point in the world. You start from points with known coordinates and then measure in the details. Everything is documented through maps or drawings.
Measuring correctly is not only important before the next step, production/construction, to ensure that all data and measurements are available to the contractors. It also plays an important role once the construction is complete in producing relationship documents so that it is easier to troubleshoot and fix errors in the future.

Accurate and reliable position is a basic requirement for the necessary geoinformation for a project. When surveying, like staking out, you start from known points:
– Stakeout – Staking out marks out the position of a known point in reality. Ex: A hole is to be dug. A stakeout is carried out to mark out where it is to be dug and where pipes and other infrastructure are located so as not to damage them during the excavation.
– Inmätning dokumenterar en punkts position. Ex: A hole has been dug. A survey is carried out to measure and document where this hole is located in the world.
